Compare/Contrast Two Magazine Covers

For this project I choose Everyday with Rachel Ray and Family Circle magazine. While these two magazines are completely different they are the same in a couple ways. The first thing I notices was that both titles are in bold letters were as the Rachel Ray magazine is in all capital letter and the family circle magazine only has F in family and C in circle capitalized. The second thing I noticed was that most of the words if not all of the words in the Rachel Ray and family circle magazine are in all capital letters. One difference in Rachel Ray magazine is that it is all about food when Family Circle is more about doing things with your family and there are some recipes that you can share with your family and friends. The backgrounds of both magazines make the pictures stand out whether it is Rachel Ray herself or the three bowls of soup. On both magazines they don’t put the barcode on the front cover of the magazine they put in on the back so it is not hiding any of the important picture or topics listed in the magazine. It seems that the Rachel Ray magazine would be more about your family or shopping then the family circle because on the family circle it has more food then Rachel Ray does.

  1. What about font choices? Why do you think Rachael Ray uses a script in her nameplate?

  2. I think she uses script because it's almost like she wrote it, and makes it more personal. maybe? no? oh well, what do I know!

  3. I think you mixed up the two magazines at the end. I'm pretty sure you wanted to say the Family Circle magazine would be more about your family or shopping and the Rachel Ray is more about food. I think you meant this because in the beginning of your paper you said "One difference in Rachel Ray magazine is that it is all about food when Family Circle is more about doing things with your family and there are some recipes that you can share with your family and friends."

I think you should have went into a lot more detail on similarities and differences of the two magazines.

  11. I like your comparsion about the name plates. I think Family Circle definitely looks more welcoming to a family - ah the power of font.
It seems like Rachel Ray is trying to stress every day life by not only a different font on "every", but also headlining "comfort foods" -
foods people may want to turn to after a stressful event of every day life - or maybe not, just a thought.

  12. Family Circle magazine looks old because of the yellow background, but Rachel Rays looks more sophisticated. I really enjoy Rays better because of the color scheme that she has got going on.
